This introductory woodworking workshop teaches the core practical skills used in preparing and dressing materials for furniture making. You will learn how to properly set up and use hand planes to square and flatten wood, forming the foundation for all joinery work. This course is the entry point to all other Core Skills Courses.
You will learn:
Adjusting and setting up jack planes and smoothing planes
Measuring and marking dressing lines accurately
Blade geometry and correct tool use
Squaring wood across all four faces
Terminology, techniques, and approach for flattening boards
Use of winding sticks, scrubbing, flattening, and smooth planing
