Mitred Laminated Box

Mitred Laminated Box is our beginners next steps class.

Build a lovely keepsake box which has mitred corners and shows off the laminated strips used to make the wood sides. These boxes are made sealed and then the lid is sliced off using the bandsaw. All Basic Skills classes are designed to provide a strong foundation for beginners, helping build excellent fundamental woodworking skills and proper tool usage whether they want to make furniture or fix things around the home. It all starts with a “box”.

MATERIALS: 1x4 Spruce-Pine-Fir (supplied)

PREREQUISITES: None (open to beginners)

TOOLS: Hand planes, chisels, tablesaw, jointer, planer, bandsaw

EXERCISE: Safe sequence of steps to mill raw wood to a specific size, lamination, angled cuts, and finish a small project box. Also a simple plinth from 1x3’s.

DURATION: 17.5 hours (5 sessions)

Designed to provide a strong foundation for beginners; helping build excellent fundamental woodworking skills, this class is process-oriented, focusing on the proper and safe use of woodworking machines, hand tools and core techniques.

This class is appropriate for beginning woodworker or those looking to freshen up their safe, accurate and efficient woodworking techniques that lead to successful, and satisfying results. The plinth includes instruction in drilling holes, fastening wood with screws and the safe use of a pneumatic brad nailer.
