Weeklong 5-Day Build
This week-long class will build your project over 5 days. Suggested project is the Dutch Tool Chest but it can be adjusted to be a flat top blanket chest as well. It runs 24 hours on consecutive days (Monday- Friday), wood is included, and there are more working hours each day if needed.
MATERIALS: Selection of supplied hardwoods
TOOLS: all major machines, router table, bandsaw, and hand tools
EXERCISE: Dutch Tool Chest or flat top Blanket Box, or instructor approved project
PREREQUISITE: some machine experience or handtool experience is suggested
DURATION: 25 hours = Monday - Friday, 5hrs a day minus lunch break
Begin with seven good pieces of hardwood and create a project. The class covers the various approaches and methods for undertaking a complex project with a variety of joints. Advanced work covered includes cutting tapers (Table saw), router rabbet cuttings, finger joints, and template routering.
It is ideal for students who want to move on to challenges beyond the Basics but would benefit by working on the same projects for a group.. Students will complete more work in the 5 days if they have previous woodworking experience. The focus will be on planning, prepping material, breaking out larger lumber, and choosing the effective joints needed for the project. There will be an emphasis on using hand tools to complement the machine work. In five consecutive days, students work towards finishing a chest or a project approved by the instructor. It is common for projects to need more time beyond the class to complete these projects, and regular shop drop-in times are available at an hourly rate.
